Blankets for the Horse by Suzanne Dalton

Besides being a fine artist and creating fiber sculptures I also weave horse blankets. Usually they're commissioned for special events; competitions or parades. However Bob Henry and his Tennesse Walker "Shadow" wanted to look good all the time in their saddle blanket. The picture above was taken after the two had ridden a series of cross-country rides totally over 100 miles.

The blankets are made of 100% pure wool. It takes almost a month to complete each piece, from the design phase to finishing. Prices range from $800 to $2,200, depending upon the size and complexity of the piece.

I've translated the interrelated color stripes of my fine art into a utilitarian equestrian piece. It's fascinating to me to see the pieces truly "in motion".

This was one of the few times Sunny wore her blanket.
Bill Smith decided to hang the piece in his gallery at home.
